Shelter - Private tennants rights

Housing and housing rights is a very complex area in which the legislation and guidance changes all the time (I work in housing and it's a full time job just keeping up with all the changes in government policy!). For council and housing association tenants, their housing rights are pretty much governed by the Housing Act and the guidance which all local authorities and housing associations must adhere to, but for private rented tenants, i.e. if you rent your home from a private landlord, the type of tenancy you have and your rights as a private rented tenant are much more complex. Shelter's website, though traditionally known for giving advice on homelessness, has loads on information on all sorts of housing issues and can help you work out just what your rights as a tenant are.
